Ouran High School Host Club - after the last chapter

I woke up this morning, checked manga sites... read a half of a book, ran some errands, checked manga sites, did some household jobs, checked manga sites and there is still nothing T_T I feel depressed. It's understandable to believe when you've got over 30 different mangas started, there should be at least one new chapter everyday. But it's not like that :( Of course, I've got plenty planed-to-read titles but I don't feel like starting them. Have you ever got the feeling you know to many characters? In my mind stories started to mix up. Not mention names, it's difficult for me to say if this girl likes blond guy, or brown one. Terrible. (after reading a chap I remember everything, yet IMO I shouldn't pick any new manga for a while)

As you can see, I've changed design of the blog, allowed everyone's comments and now I'm getting to know available gadgets. Hope you like it :)

Anyway, let's move to a root of the matter. Ouran High School Host Club manga is finished. It's difficult for me to write general review. I started reading more than 2 years ago and it's thanks to this title I got interested in shoujo manga or, more specifically, gender-bender shoujo manga... So here my personal thoughts

Summary: Haruhi is a common girl with big dreams: she wants to become a lawyer. As she is real hard-worker she gets a scholarship and starts her high school life in Ouran - high school for the rich and nobles. Because of her looks she is mistaken for a boy and after breaking an expensive vase she is made an errand-boy for a Host Club - school club which object is to entertain female students. During all manga we watch as friendship between Haruhi and rest of Host Club members grows, how they influence each other, how friendship is turning into love. And everything is mixed with crazy adventures of the Host Club

Host club members have got typical (or it seems like this at the beginning) bishie characters:
Tamaki is a happy-go-lucky Host Club 'tono' (king)
Kyouya is a cold business type. He deserves credit for not letting the club to bankrupt.
Hikaru and Kaoru are twins who can't live without each other. They are noisy and love to play jokes on people. They are very alike to Wesley twins;)
Honey is a shota type. Even though he looks like elementary boy, he is 3rd year at the beginning of series. He loves everything cute or sweet
Mori is Honey bodyguard. He is silent and animal-love character. He would do anything to help Honey.

Haruhi on the other hand is quite different from average shoujo girl. She is cynical and it's hard to make her heart beating fast. She doesn't care about her looks or boyfriends. She is concentrated on her studies and special occasions in supermarket; adventures seems for her more bothersome than enjoyable. Of course, as I've written before, while the story goes, she starts to change.

I can't say much about art. I don't remember clearly old chapters. I'm so used to characters projects it's difficult for me to give them notes. It's like an old friend: you can't say if he/she is pretty or ugly, you know him/her so well it's obvious that he/she looks, like he/she looks. What is noticeable, even when pictures are messed up it's always easy to understand who is talking thanks to miniatures and different kinds of bubbles. It helps a lot.

More about plot  (spoilers!)
First chapters are just awesome. Most of the stories you can watch in anime, but some of them not, so it's worth reading. Stories are fresh, hilarious and absolutely absurd. It's definitely impossible not to fall in love with it. But after a while story is changing radically.  There is a huge development of romance thread of the manga. Haruhi slowly fall in love with Tamaki. Tamaki doesn't understand his own feelings for Haruhi. Moreover, both Twins have feelings for Haruhi too... To make all thing more complicated, Tamaki is involved in family problems. Chapters with Host Club service are sporadic and feel unnatural. So we've got soap opera. Quite disappointment compared to the beginning of the story. For me it was quite difficult to go trough rest of the story and I'm happy that this is the end of it.


The last chapter is one of the best from the second part of manga. It looks like it was made long ago, when manga was in its best shape. The atmosphere is light and cute. There's possibility to continue the story, but it rather won't be done. Probably, there will be some special chapters.  


Well, I guess it's a time for wrap-up. It is the title which everybody should know. You may choose if you prefer manga or anime. After only few stories the world of Ouran would drag you in and it won't matter the rest story is worse or better. The magic of characters is so powerful it's impossible not to follow them to the very end. Memories of fun with Ouran would stay with you forever and you'll never regret the time you spend with this manga.
